Brown Aragonite - Flat Stone

Not very stable at low temperatures, this stone only forms within living organisms. It is thus frequently bio-synthesized by different species. It constitutes in fact: the mother-of-pearl and pearls of oysters, the shell of many shellfish, including mussels and part of the skeletons of hard corals, located on coral reefs.
So, half of all seashells have a shell made of aragonite, while the other half is made of calcite. However, some seashells, such as abalone, have both forms of calcium carbonate.

Most of the deposits are currently located in the United States, specifically in Dakota, New Mexico and Iowa.

Composition: Calcium carbonate.
