Arfvedsonite stone was discovered in 1823 and named after the chemist J. A. Arfvedson, who first identified it. Arfvedsonite is a natural stone containing a large amount of sodium and iron but also silicon, which is omnipresent in the Earth's crust. Arfvedsonite has a cleavage that can be reminiscent of black tourmaline. It can be black, dark green or blue with gray, ochre and bluish inclusions. Its polished surface is reminiscent of a night sky where galaxies, shooting stars and northern lights mingle.
