Charoite - Tumbled Stone

Charoite, pronounced “tacharoite,” is a fascinating mineral belonging to the silicate group. Discovered in the 1940s by a Russian mineralogist, its name comes from the Chara River, where it was discovered. With its beautiful purple hue, it is prized both for creating ornamental pieces and for making elegant jewelry.

Charoite grows exclusively in limestone massifs, but this only happens when temperatures exceed 200 degrees, in the presence of calcium and potassium. The only recorded deposit is located in Siberia, in the Aldan massif, near Lake Baikal.

Composition: Hydrosilicate complex of potassium, calcium, sodium, barium & strontium.
