Chrysanthemum rock, known as “Xenotime,” is a highly valued mineral, particularly valued in Japanese culture and more broadly in Asia. The mineral dates back approximately 250 million years and was discovered in 1832 in Norway by Swedish chemist Jöns Jacob Berzelius. Originally referred to as “Kenotime,” a typographical error led to its current name of “Xenotime.” It is primarily found in riverbeds, where it comes in a variety of colors, ranging from yellow-brown to reddish-brown, gray, green, and red. The stone, which can be semi-rigid, opaque, or transparent, is distinguished by its veiled luster. Although beautiful, Xenotime is fragile and can be easily scratched with a simple tool such as a slat or knife.
