Cobaltocalcite - Tumbled Stone

Cobaltocalcite is essentially calcite enriched with cobalt. For this stone to take the form we know it, it is imperative that the calcite deposit contains cobalt. Its beautiful pink hue comes from calcite, while the gray shades are attributed to cobalt. It was in 1910 that the Italian mineralogist Millosevich chose to name it cobaltocalcite, because of its unique composition and its classification, the result of advances in scientific analysis techniques.

Cobaltocalcite is present in Morocco, notably in the Bou Azzer deposit, as well as in the Mupine mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
