Blue Kyanite - Chips Bracelet

Kyanite, also known as kyanite and disthene, has a rich history of naming. The term "cyanite" was introduced by Abraham Gottlob in 1789, deriving from the Greek "kyanos", meaning blue, and which is the origin of the word "cyan". This name is widely recognized by the International Mineralogy Association. In contrast, the name "disthene" was given by René-Just Haüy in 1801, coming from the Greek words "di" (two) and "destenos" (strength), in reference to its electrical properties. The latter term is mainly used in France.

Due to its relatively low hardness, kyanite is rarely used in jewelry. However, some Central Asian cultures create jewelry from this stone, highlighting its brilliance and vibrant blue color. However, this beauty is fragile: it requires protection from shocks and friction with hard materials, which can damage it irreversibly. Currently, kyanite is often cut into rectangular crystals or cabochons, attracting collectors and gem enthusiasts.

The main deposits of blue Kyanite are found in Austria, Burma, Brazil, the United States, Kenya, and Switzerland.
