Description
Description
Pyrope has a rich and ancient history, with mentions in many ancient texts that speak of the stones and their powers. The term Garnet, which includes Pyrope, comes from the Latin granitus, meaning grain or seed. This etymology has even deeper roots, in the Phoenician punica granatum, which translates to “pomegranate seeds,” referring to the intense red color of garnets. It is all the more captivating to note that these stones often occur in clusters, much like pomegranate seeds. The name Pyrope was given in 1803 and comes from the Greek Pir, meaning “fire” and “to appear.”
