Howlite - Flat Stone

Howlite is a remarkable stone, distinguished by its white or cream hue adorned with gray or black veins that give it a marbled appearance. Its soft texture and elegance make it a popular choice. Discovered in 1868 by Henry How in a gypsum quarry in Canada, this stone was brought to light thanks to miners who alerted the geologist to its presence. Howlite is often compared to other stones, particularly turquoise, because of its similarities. Originally referred to as silico-boro-calcite, it was renamed howlite by mineralogist James Dwight Dana, thus paying tribute to its discoverer.

The most significant deposits of howlite are found in Germany, Austria, Brazil, Canada, the United States, France and Italy.
