Larimar, often referred to as the Stone of Atlantis, is an exceptionally rare sodium-calcium silicate, belonging to the pectolite family. Although pectolite is found worldwide, it occurs only in shades of gray and white. Larimar’s delicate blue hue comes from the incorporation of copper in place of calcium. This unique mineral was formed in the cavities of basalt rock, the result of intense volcanic activity. As the lava flowed, it carried various minerals with it, moving them along with it. As the lava progressed through the cavities and dikes, the minerals were deposited, creating the beautiful stone we know today as Larimar.

This exceptional mineral is found exclusively in a restricted area of ​​one square kilometer in the Dominican Republic, precisely in the mountains overlooking Baoruco.
