Sunstone - Tumbled Stone

Sunstone, also known as Heliolite, is a type of oligoclase feldspar that is found primarily in large crystallized masses, as tabular or prismatic forms are very rare. Its name comes from its striking resemblance to the sun, especially when it exhibits bright reflections that create a “flash” or chatoyancy effect, often due to inclusions of Goethite or Hematite. Sunstones can be found throughout the world in a variety of shades, from peachy pink to bright orange to light red. It is extremely rare to find an entirely natural Sunstone that ranges from dark blue to a slightly transparent ivory green.

Sunstone deposits are located in several countries such as Sri Lanka, India, Mexico, Norway, Russia, China, Canada and the United States, particularly in the state of Oregon.
