Pietersite - Tumbled Stone

Ancient civilizations named stones directly, often based on their hues or physical properties. The official discovery of the hybrid stone was made by Australian geologist Sydney Pieters in 1962 during an expedition to Namibia. In homage to his find, Mr. Pieters decided to give his name to this fascinating stone.

Pietersite is actually a mixture of several minerals, including:
- The hawk's eye
- Tiger's eye
- Bronzite
- Crocidolite

It is part of the fibrous quartz family. Its dark and cold hues blend harmoniously with its streaked and shimmering reflections, due to the presence of crocidolite. What makes this stone so special are the many disordered inclusions it contains, varying from brown to yellow, and sometimes blue-gray when oxidized.

Although discovered in 1962, natural Pietersite only began to be commercialized in the early 2000s. The most remarkable deposits of raw Pietersite are found in Namibia, but their high price pushes many buyers to turn to Asian sources, which offer a good compromise. Recently, the craze for this stone has really exploded, particularly in the United States.
