Shattuckite - Tumbled Stone

Shattuckite was discovered in the famous Shattuck Copper Mine, located in Arizona (USA). Although this mine has been closed since 1947 and is difficult to access, Shattuckite remains a very rare mineral. It can also be found in a few deposits in Africa and Japan. This mineral is composed of micro-crystals that form on a parent rock, resulting from an oxidation process of copper deposits, which gives it its bright blue color. Shattuckite mainly grows in desert environments such as Arizona, Namibia and Congo, within copper sulfide deposits. It has a fascinating pleochroism, ranging from pale blue to dark blue, which means that the color of the stone varies depending on the angle of light.

Additionally, Shattuckite can be associated with Chrysocolla, a stone that resembles it, hence the name Chrysocolla Shattuckite.

The most significant deposits of Shattuckite are located in South Africa, Namibia, the United States, as well as Argentina and Chile.
