Description
Description
Sodalite is a group of minerals, often referred to as the feldspathoid group. Its discovery dates back to 1811, when Europeans found it in Greenland. However, evidence of its use by the Caral people, between 2600 and 2000 BC, near Lima, indicates that it was exploited for commercial purposes. Although Sodalite is rarely seen in pure crystal form, it can sometimes be found mixed with white calcite. Its main color is blue, but it can also be found in white, yellow, red and green. The term "Sodalite" comes from " soda " and " lite ", which means stone or rock in Greek. The English word " soda " has its origins in the medieval Latin " soda ", itself derived from the Arabic " surwad ", which designated a plant whose ashes were used to produce soda.
