Description
Description
Pink Tourmaline is a beautiful variety of Tourmaline that ranges from pale to bright pink. It can be found in a variety of forms, including rough, transparent, and opaque. This stone is often associated with quartz and other Tourmaline hues. It is important not to confuse it with Rubellite (Red Tourmaline), although they can come from the same mines. California is known for its exceptionally beautiful Pink Tourmaline specimens and has a rich history of trade in the stone. In the mid to late 1800s, the Chinese Empress Tz'u Hsi became fascinated with the gem and quickly established a direct trade with California mines. The finest specimens of the time came from mines in the San Diego area, including Pala Chief, Tourmaline King & Queen, Himalaya, and Stewart. This thriving trade continued until 1912, when the Chinese government was overthrown. Today, a century later, the Stewart Mine continues to produce Pink Tourmaline of exceptional quality.

Possible counterfeits
Possible counterfeits
Pink Tourmaline is often imitated in its crystal form. In fact, fake tourmalines made of glass or synthetic spinel circulate on the market.
In addition, the natural colors of Tourmalines are often modified by irradiation. This process intensifies the colors. Heating the tourmalines, on the other hand, is used to lighten the color of the crystals.
