Zoisite - Tumbled Stone

Zoisite, often referred to as Saualpite, is a fascinating group of silicate minerals composed of calcium and aluminum. This mineral occurs primarily as masses, although it can also crystallize in small prisms. Formerly classified as an Epidote, Zoisite was recognized as a separate mineral group in 2006. It is commonly found in striped or mottled patterns of green and black, but can also occur in shades of yellow, gray, pink, brown, and even colorless. The purple variety recently discovered in Tanzania, known as Tanzanite, is a particularly prized form of Zoisite. This mineral is almost always found in association with others, including Ruby or Pargasite.

The most significant deposits are located in Austria, Burma, the United States, Kenya, Sri Lanka, India, Zambia, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand and Vietnam.
